Le mot, la notion, la croyance en Dieu sont sujets à discussion depuis que l’idée d’un Dieu unique est apparue – il y a environ 3 500 ans, avec le Rig-Véda en Inde et, peu après, le judaïsme.

Dieu vs science

Pour les athées, la science rend la notion de Dieu obsolète. Là où l’explication manque encore, ils refusent de placer de la transcendance. Ils estiment qu’aucune raison supérieure ne préside à leur existence et qu’à leur mort, ils disparaîtront totalement.

Contrairement à Richard Dawkins, je ne pense pas que « la science et le rationalisme soient une autoroute vers l’athéisme ». Ni le Big Bang ni l’évolution n’infirment l’existence d’un principe divin responsable de la vie.

Le libre-arbitre

Si Dieu le voulait, tous les Hommes croiraient en lui. Ce serait une plaisanterie, car Dieu a donné à l’être humain le libre-arbitre. Chacun est donc libre de croire ou non. Si le paradis existait, son accès ne serait pas conditionné par la croyance, mais par l’honnêteté du cœur – selon la définition qu’en donnaient les moralistes du XVIIᵉ siècle (classe sociale exceptée).

« Je ne crois que ce que je vois, comme saint Thomas »… Pourtant certains ne croient même pas ce qu’ils voient. En vérité, il est possible à chaque être humain de voir Dieu, vraiment, avec ses yeux – comme on voit une orange dans un compotier. Mais Dieu n’est pas un Homme.

Voir Dieu

Pour ceux qui ne savent pas, cela paraît impossible ; pour ceux qui le voient, c’est vrai. Impossible de confondre cette vision avec une figure de rhétorique ou une hallucination. Quand on n’a jamais eu d’hallucination, qu’on n’est pas schizophrène et qu’on ne consomme pas de substances psychotropes, pourquoi cette vision serait-elle une hallucination ?

Certains disent : « Je veux voir Dieu » et ne le voient pas ; d’autres ne demandent rien et le voient ; d’autres encore le voient sans savoir qu’ils le voient et mettent un autre nom dessus.

D’autres voudraient dialoguer avec Dieu. Ce désir ne sera jamais satisfait : Dieu ne parle pas aux Hommes avec des mots, dans aucune langue. On peut lui parler, mais ce seront des monologues. S’il entend, il ne répond pas. Méfiez-vous si une voix répond : c’est probablement le loup déguisé en agneau… ou une pathologie qui nécessite un spécialiste.

Dieu ou la vie

Si le mot « Dieu » gêne les athées, remplacez-le par « énergie-vitale ». L’énergie-vitale existe, personne ne peut le nier. Sans elle, pas de vie. Quand elle quitte le corps, celui-ci se décompose et retourne au cycle du carbone… mais l’âme ? Quand on pose des questions à l’énergie-vitale, elle ne répond pas avec des mots. Elle donne la seule réponse qui n’a pas besoin de question : le miracle incessant de la respiration – surtout l’inspiration. C’est la preuve que Dieu existe.

Dieu est infini ; le monde est une de ses créations. La Grâce de Dieu existe aussi – non comme une magnanimité, mais comme une propriété, tout comme la liquidité est une propriété de l’eau. L’amour est également une de ses propriétés. Son amour n’est pas un sentiment romantique, mais une force créatrice.

Les mots

Le mot « pêche » désigne un fruit, mais lequel ? La première pêche juteuse d’un été d’enfance ou celle fade et farineuse de l’hypermarché ? Le mot reste le même, le fruit change. Dieu, c’est pareil : Il n’a pas le même sens selon qu’on y croit ou non, qu’on soit chrétien, juif ou hindou.

Dieu existe, quel que soit le nom qu’on lui donne. Quand on le voit autrement qu’en hallucinant, on ne peut plus douter. Vous aussi, qui lisez ce texte, vous pouvez voir Dieu (ou votre énergie-vitale) en vous, en retournant votre regard vers l’intérieur.

Il existe une technique de méditation qui permet de voir – puis de contempler – une lumière intérieure (jyoti ou Bhargo), même les yeux fermés dans le noir. Cette lumière est une manifestation directe de la vie qui nous anime et que l’on peut nommer Dieu.

J’enseigne cette technique. Cette lumière apparaît parfois comme des étoiles scintillantes sur fond de nuit, parfois comme une tache blanche, parfois elle envahit tout le champ de vision dans le samādhi sans graines (nirbīja-samādhi ou nirvikalpa-samādhi). Cette technique est l’une des quatre révélées lors de la Révélation.

The word, the notion, the belief in god have been debated ever since the idea of a single god appeared – about 3,500 years ago, with the Rig-Veda in India and, shortly after, Judaism.

God vs science

For atheists, science makes the idea of god obsolete. Wherever explanation is still lacking, they refuse to insert transcendence. They believe no higher reason governs their existence and that at death they will vanish completely.

Unlike Richard Dawkins, I do not think that “science and rationalism are a highway to atheism.” Neither the Big Bang nor evolution disproves the existence of a divine principle responsible for life.

Free will

If god wanted it, every Human Being would believe in him. That would be a joke, because god gave human beings free will. Everyone is therefore free to believe or not. If paradise existed, entry would not depend on belief, but on honesty of heart – as seventeenth-century moralists defined it (social class aside).“I only believe what I see, like Saint Thomas”…

Yet some people don’t even believe what they do see. In truth, every human being can see god, really see him, with their own eyes – the way one sees an orange in a fruit bowl. But god is not a Human Being.

Seeing god

To those who don’t know, it seems impossible; to those who see him, it is real. This vision cannot be mistaken for a figure of speech or a hallucination. When one has never had hallucinations, is not schizophrenic, and takes no psychoactive substances, why would seeing god be a hallucination?

Some say, “I want to see god” and do not see him; others ask for nothing and see him; still others see him without realizing it and give what they see another name.

Others would like to have a conversation with god. That desire will never be fulfilled: god does not speak to Human Beings in words, in any language. You can speak to him, but it will be a monologue. If he hears, he does not answer. Be wary if a voice answers: it is probably the wolf dressed as a lamb… or a pathology requiring a specialist.

God or life

If the word “god” bothers atheists, replace it with “life-energy.” Life-energy exists; no one can deny it. Without it, no life. When it leaves the body, the body decomposes and returns to the carbon cycle… but the soul?

When you ask life-energy questions, it does not answer with words. It gives the only answer that needs no question: the ceaseless miracle of breathing – especially the in-breath. That is proof that god exists.

God is infinite; the world is one of his creations. God’s Grace also exists – not as magnanimity, but as a property, just as liquidity is a property of water. Love is likewise one of his properties. His love is not a romantic feeling, but a creative force.

Words

The word “peach” names a fruit, but which one? The first juicy peach of a childhood summer, or the tasteless, mealy one from the supermarket? The word stays the same, the fruit differs. God is the same: the meaning changes depending on whether one believes or not, whether one is Christian, Jewish, or Hindu.

God exists, whatever name is given. When you see him otherwise than in hallucination, doubt becomes impossible. You too, reading this text, can see god (or your life-energy) within yourself by turning your gaze inward.

There is a meditation technique that allows you to see – and then contemplate – an inner light (jyoti or Bhargo), even with eyes closed in the dark. This light is a direct manifestation of the life that animates us and that we may call god.I teach this technique.

For some this light appears as twinkling stars against a night background, for others as a white patch; for still others it fills the entire field of vision in seedless samādhi (nirbīja-samādhi or nirvikalpa-samādhi). This technique is one of the four revealed during the Revelation.
